Prof. Tim Deer

Prof. Deer is the President & CEO of The Spine and Nerve Center of the Virginias and the Chairman of the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience. He completed his training in anesthesiology and pain medicine at the University of Virginia.
Prof. Deer has published over 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 8 textbooks on a range of topics, including injection techniques, minimally invasive disc procedures, intrathecal drug delivery, and spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation. He lectures at many national and international symposiums and has been involved in the hands-on training of more than a thousand interventional pain specialists. Prof. deer believes that we teach by showing the example that the patient should always come first with a focus on safety and efficacy.
Pain specialization: Minimally invasive spine and neuromodulation.
He is the past chairman of the American Society of Anesthesiology, where he serves on the Committee on Pain Medicine, and the past president of the International Neuromodulation Society.
Prof. Deer is also an accomplished endurance athlete. Some of his accomplishments include: Badwater 135-mile endurance World Championship fastest over 50. 30-time Ironman Finisher, and 8-time World Championship finisher. He has also participated in numerous marathons and is an 18-time Boston Marathon finisher.
