Professor Karmakar Manoj Kumar is from the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care of the Faculty of Medicine, of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Dr. Kumar is also an Associate Editor for Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine and a guest reviewer for several reputed journals in Anesthesiology.
Pain specialization: Regional anesthetic techniques in adults and young children and, in particular, thoracic paravertebral block, spinal sonography, ultrasound guided central neuraxial blocks and local anesthetic pharmacology. Dr. Karmakar’s research has defined the sonoanatomy of the spine and has described real-time ultrasound guidance for central neuraxial blocks (epidural injections). He has also been at the forefront of research on paravertebral blockade and its use for anesthesia and analgesia. He has also demonstrated that paravertebral blockade can reduce chronic pain and improve health related quality of life after major breast cancer surgery.
